HRH Prince Mohamed At NAM Summit

Brunei Foreign Affairs Minister His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed
Bolkiah is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the 13th Non-Aligned
Movement (NAM) Summit at the Putra World Trade Centre.
His Royal Highness attended the
Preparatory Ministerial Meeting yesterday.
Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato
Seri Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi opened the meeting.
The ministers discussed preparations
of the two-day summit scheduled to open on Monday.
During the interactive ministerial
session, the foreign minister said that NAM's works have encouraged
Brunei since the Sultanate became a member ten years back.
The Prince specifically commended the
Movement's focus that had been given on South-south Cooperation in
promoting common ideas, experiences, technical advances, skills and
expertise.
According to His Royal Highness, the
work of NAM fitted well to the modern ideas of capacity building, a
much-needed concept in which NAM could exert a lasting effect in terms
of attracting investment to developing countries.
He also highlighted the South-south
Centre in Jakarta, which he said would be able to focus on this kind
of work.
Following the interactive ministerial
session, Brunei's foreign minister held bilateral meetings with
several representatives of NAM member nations attending the meeting.
He first met with the
Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, the Right Honourable Donald
McKinnon.
During the meeting, His Royal
Highness and the Right Honourable exchanged views on general matters
of commonwealth and interest of NAM.
He then met with Tunisia's Foreign
Affairs Minister Habib Ben Yahia. Tunisia is one of the North African
countries that have been a member of NAM.
The Prince later joined the other
ministers in a luncheon hosted by the Malaysian Foreign Affairs
Minister Dato Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaafar Albar.
The ministers resumed their plenary
meeting to consider and adopt the report of the preparatory meeting
for submission to the summit on Monday.
