St. George's school bridges the
Digital Divide
By Javier Lagar

A teacher and student at the ICT workshop
Bridging the Digital Divide' was the
theme of a series of free computer literacy workshops that was offered
by the ICT staff of St. George's School. Attended by parents, teachers
and members of the public, the workshops covered such topics as
e-mail, search engines, online chat and highlighted parental
considerations regarding online child safety. Mr. Merlin Kong, ICT
Architect at the school noted that the workshops were initially
conceived by ICT Lab Assistants Hj Mario Faizal bin Matnor and Kevin
Cheong as an end-of-training ICT project centred on contributing to
the community.
Workshop attendees Dyg Hjh Naimah Hj
Kamaluddin and Ms Nancy Chung expressed their satisfaction with the
workshops, pointing out the parent-centred, informal and hands-on
nature of the lessons.
According to Mr. Kong, the 'Digital
Divide' workshops are an important ingredient in further enhancing the
ICT education of the school's students. He added that such ongoing
initiatives are premised on the belief that knowledge given to parents
and teachers will likewise benefit the students.
