The three panels at the Appreciation
Drama dialogue held at the Brunei Language and Literature Bureau (DBP)
in Berakas yesterday afternoon agreed that drama-acting is a complex
art which could easily be tackled by talented people. The four, Pg Hj
Mohd Yunus Pg Hj Besar, SM Mos and Hjh Maimon Hj Bakar agreed that
physical attractiveness is secondary while talent is the key to
success in drama acting.
They said actors' talents are judged
by their ability to express themselves suitable to the needs of the
production team, script writers and audience who delivered the final
judgement to the success of drama productions.
"However, talents need to be
polished and the art of acting needs to be scrutinised before a
talented person could achieve success," they said.
The three panellists were delivering
their views on Expressions in Drama Acting chaired by Mohamad bin
Salleh. The once-a-month event was also attended by the acting
Director, Hj Abdul Hakim bin Hj Mohd Yassin and officials of DBP, the
co-organiser as well as members of Affiliation of Drama, Entertainment
and Creative Artists (GAPHAR), the organiser, drama practitioners and
activists, script-writers, local actors and actresses. The three have
accumulated enough experiences in drama acting over the years.
"There are many things to look
after in production quality dramas where actors and actresses play
important roles.
"The ability to express through
voice, movement, emotional changes, charms, depth of feeling,
originality and plausibility are important characters. Coupled with
physical attraction, such actor or actresses should go further,"
said Pg Hj Mohd Yunus.
True to her calibre in acting, Hjh
Maimon delivered her views with full emotion and she was presented
with loud applause and cheers after she finished talking.
Hjh Maimon said the ability to
memorise acting lines is vital because an actor or an actresses is a
creative player and not simply an expression interpreter.
"No matter how much people
expressed themselves in acting if he or she could not memorise
dialogue lines then the production shall have to do
"re-take" many times," she said.
She said talented actors and
actresses should understand the needs of the script and his or ability
to apply the needed expressions is vital to the success of a drama
production.
