Man awaits fate in forgery trial

The Magistrates' Court yesterday
deffered the sentencing of a 35 year-old clerk with the
Telecommunications' Department Training Centre to February 27 after he
pleaded guilty to committing fraud yesterday. Hamdani Adam is facing a
charge of having forged a letter bearing the letterhead of the Brunei
Investment Agency (BIA) to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Eminent Japan Co. Ltd, Mr Sadao Otsu which was dated February 20, 2002
purportedly signed by the Managing Director of BIA, Dato Paduka Hj Abd
Yaakub Hj Bakar, with intent to commit fraud by falsely representing
to Mr Sadao that the BIA has agreed to sell a certain property to
Eminent Co. Ltd sometime on or before April 1, 2002 at the Training
Centre of the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of
Communications, where he works.
