Thieving pair steals accountant's
wallet
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
The public is advised to be wary of
thieves in broad daylight utilising various techniques in carrying out
their criminal activities. Last Wednesday, an office girl lost her
wallet to a thief who walked into her office room on the pretext of
showing a cheque.
The Filipina accountant said she was
an entertaining a client because her office was letting out one of the
rooms.
While she was busy explaining
requirements to the interested party, she saw the man was trying to
send a message. But at that time she did not suspect anything fishy.
When the Filipina was on her way to
show the man the room which was to be rented out, another man suddenly
walked into the Kiulap establishment.
She thought the man was a delivery
man so she left him alone at the counter.
After she finished showing the room
to the first person, she then proceeded to go to her office room.
She was startled when she saw that
the man was in the room.
"I asked him what she was doing
in the room. He showed me a cheque on the pretext that the item was
meant for the office.
"When I told him the cheque was
not for the office the man and the other person left quickly.
"I then went back to my room and
found out my wallet had been stolen from my handbag," she said.
She said she was lucky to discover
the loss earlier as she had time to inform her bank on the losses of
her cash withdrawal card and other credit cards.
"I have about $100 in the wallet
but if he could get his hands on my ATM machine and withdraw the money
using my card, he would have been much richer by now. Luckily I
informed my loss to the concerned bank."
A police report had been made on the
same day. She had no doubt that the theft was planned by the two
persons as no one else came inside her office that day.
"The modus operandi of the two
persons was carried efficiently. I could not contact the person who
wanted to rent the room as he did not leave any contact number to
me," she said.
She said the two persons spoke with
Indonesian dialect.
