Message from President Jiang Zemin

"On the festive occasion of the 19th Anniversary of the Independence of Brunei Darussalam, I wish to, on behalf of the people of China and in my own name, extend to Your Majesty, and through Your Majesty to the people of Brunei Darussalam, the warmest congratulations and best wishes. Since its independence Brunei Darussalam has made remarkable progress in the economic development and social undertakings under Your Majesty's leadership. In particular, Brunei Darussalam has achieved positive results in recent years on its way to economic diversification and has made its special efforts to promote the regional stability and prosperity. I sincerely wish that Brunei Darussalam, well known as an Abode of Peace, will surely have an even brighter prospect.

China and Brunei Darussalam are friendly neighbours. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries 12 years ago, the bilateral relations have been developing successfully and the mutual exchanges in various fields have been increasing continuously; particularly, the cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit in the petrochemical industry has produced a marked effect. I am fully convinced that through the joint efforts of both governments and peoples, the good-neighbour friendly relations and cooperation between China and Brunei Darussalam will surely step up a new level."
