Serial Car Thief Sentenced To 31 Months Jail

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 34-year-old car thief with previous convictions was ordered jailed for 31 months while his 23-year-old partner-in-crime was yesterday sent to prison for 21 months when they pleaded guilty to six charges of theft.

Al-Ahmad Hj Yahya was ordered to serve a 31-month jail sentence because of his bad record. But 23-year-old Yusree Hj Yaakub only convicted once before was jailed for 21 months.

According to the charges, the two stole a car registered BJ 397 on June 18 last year at the parking lot in Kg Sg Kebun. They also stole another car belonging to Puteh Hj Mat Serudin from the Bubungan 12 parking lot on June 13, 2002 and a Mazda 323 owned by Pangat Singh at Kedai Runcit Seri Enterprise on June 24, last year.

Other vehicles they took away included a wagon belonging to Adnan Hj Kamis, a saloon car owned by Mohd Arifin Abdullah Nawin @ Empin Ak Nawin at the RIPAS hospital parking lot on June 22, 2002 and also a Toyota Cressida XL belonging to Hj Jais Hj Md Yassin on June 21, 2002 at a parking lot near the RIPAS hospital's canteen, the court heard.
