Fearing Middle East Turmoil Brunei
Pilgrims Make A Quick Exit
Bandar Seri
Begawan - As war drums beat in quickening crescendo and as U.S.
President Bush's battle cries grow shriller to bomb innocent women and
children in Iraq plunging the whole region in turmoil people are
fleeing the Middle East as fast as they can.
These included Brunei pilgrims who
have been performing the Haj in Mecca. Fearing a holocaust they too
have begun to return to Brunei much earlier than usual.
Some 1,068 Bruneians have performed
the fifth pillar of Islam along with tens of thousands of Muslims from
all over the world.
The first group of five Haj pilgrims
for this year returned home yesterday. Others are expected to fly back
in quick succession thus quickly evacuating the pilgrims from the war
zone.
Two flights are expected today.
The flight carrying the second group
will comprise 67 pilgrims and is scheduled at 7am while the third
flight with 249 pilgrims is expected to touchdown at 6pm.
The fourth group comprising of 249
pilgrims is scheduled to return home on Monday at 1.10pm, the fifth
group with 147 pilgrims will arrive on Tuesday at 12.40pm and the
sixth group made up of 102 pilgrims is scheduled on Wednesday at
2.10pm.
