It was a colourful and spectacular
night for many when they arrived to watch the Lunar New Year Concert,
which was held at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre on Friday night.
Ticket holders assembled at the gates as early as 6.30 pm and for the
lucky first 500 ticket holders, they were given an 'Ang Pau' each as
well as a $15 coupon for free rides at the amusement park at Jerudong.
Thousands of people flocked the amphitheatre to see the two-and-a-half
hour show, which was very well co-ordinated. The show kick-started at
8.30pm with a few numbers by local performers. An eight-year-old girl,
Wu Pei Pei showed off her talents by singing a few Chinese New Year
songs. This was followed by the four time Lion Dance Champions from
Chung Hwa School in Kuala Belait. The audience applauded as they
performed on dangerously high metal stilts.
The next performance was the
spectacular 'Sea World', where fluorescent coloured Fish and Algae
were illuminated by the halogen lights as a long neon dragon was seen
chasing after a fireball.
Winnie Kok, a famous Malaysian singer
who came to perform in Brunei for the first time, sang a few Chinese
numbers as well as one Malay song. This was then followed by the long
anticipated performance by the China Dolls duo who belted out a few
famous Chinese and Thai songs as well as a few New Year Songs.
During the whole entertaining show,
autographed pictures, posters and t-shirts were thrown out to the
roaring audiences. Some were also lucky enough to shake hands with
Winnie Kok and receive a souvenir from her. Pyrotechnics also
magnificently lit up the colourful stage during some performances by
the stars.
Meanwhile, excited fans waited
anxiously for the China Dolls to arrive at the Maju Motors Show room
at Jalan Tutong on Friday afternoon but were disappointed when they
were told the "China Dolls meet the fans" session was
cancelled. However, showing their appreciation and regret for this
matter, the organisers for the session gave away free China Dolls
T-shirts to the disappointed fans.
