By Saiful Rizal

Bandar Seri Begawan - Nurul Nursyarafana Md Nizamuddin, a 15-month-old baby received much needed support from the QAF Children Medical Fund to enable her to have heart operation in Kuala Lumpur.

Present at the QAF Sdn Bhd office to hand in the cheque to Nurul Nursyarafana's parents was Prince Abdul Qawi, Executive Deputy Chairman and Director of QAF Brunei.

Nurul Nursyarafana has Down Syndrome with congenital heart disease, namely patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and ventricular septal defect (VSD), both of which needs to be repaired surgically for her to grow better and not develop further complications.

She will be treated by Dr Mazeni Alwi, consultant paediatric cardiologist at the Institut Jantung Negara. The treatment will cost about RM20,000 inclusive of hospital stay.

Both of her parents are red identity card holders and hence not eligible for the Brunei Government sponsorship.
