Raids Flush Out Illegal
Immigrants In Seria Oil Town

Begawan - A Thai man suspected of overstaying in Brunei failed
to escape from an Immigration raid at a Seria workers quarters on
Thursday night.
Standing outside, the immigration
officials spotted the suspect slipping out through a hole in the wall
of the house. They immediately apprehended him.
The raid codenamed "Operasi
Benteras 6" was conducted to search the dwellings of foreign
workers suspected of violating the immigration laws. The operation
started at 10 pm and ended at about 1 am.
The Immigration raiding party issued
a special pass to a Thai national and detained two others for further
investigation.
At another rented house in Jalan
Maulana, Kuala Belait, a Filipino woman claiming to be a tourist, was
detained on failing to produce valid documents to prove her
"holiday stay" in Brunei.
A Filipino man was also issued a
special pass to facilitate investigation of the documents he showed to
the officials.
At a workers quarters in Jalan Lorong
Tengah, Seria, an Indian man was detained for failing to produce valid
documents to certify his stay in Brunei.
There were no suspects detained when
the raiding party "ambushed" a worker's quarters at the
