'A' Level students at Duli
Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College recently received their
'A' level results and one of the best results was achieved by a
visually impaired student, who studied at the school in
2001-2002.
The student is Noralizulrainee
bin Aliyusop, aged 21 from Kampong Tanjong Nangka.
He told the Bulletin that he
obtained 'B' for Business Studies and 'C' for English
Literature. Previously he studied at Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan
Science College. He revealed that the computer programme of the
Special Unit Education assisted him greatly in his studies.
In addition, a UBD lecturer,
Mrs Debbie Smith, assisted in him, particularly during his 'A'
level exams. His lecturers Mr Lauzon Andre and Mr Tom Derbyshire
said that Noralizulrainee was one of the diligent and active
students in the class.
Noralizulrainee added that
volunteers from the college also assisted him in reading books
and documents so that he understood the modules. He also used
commercial tapes and a tape recorder in studying.
Noralizulrainee lost his sight
in 1997 due to the illness, 'meningitis '.
His passion for Information
Communication Technology has fuelled his ambition to be a
computer programmer.
But for now, he would like to
take a field that combines psychology and Information
Technology. He wants to further his studies at UBD but he also
has a choice of studying overseas where there are skilled
educators and facilities to meet his needs.
Also present at the Bulletin
interview with Noralizulrainee were his parents, Aliyusop bin Hj
Dulasim and Pengiran Hajah Normah bte Pengiran Sulaiman. They
said that their son is an independent, energetic individual who
likes to do things on his own despite his disability.
They brought their son
initially to the Welfare Unit at Pulaie for three months for
assistance and later gained assistance from the Special
Education Unit.
Noralizulrainee advised all
students to be optimistic, saying "Don't give up, if you
don't succeed at first take it as a challenge it may be a
blessing in disguise in meeting your ambition in life".
