Bandar Seri
Begawan - A glass of water was all he asked when the Magistrate
asked a Sibu man for his mitigation before he was sentenced to two
weeks' jail as he failed to pay a $700 fine.
The defendant Stephen Ling Han Wea,
30, appeared before Chief Magistrate Dk Rostaina Pg Hj Duraman
yesterday on a charge of remaining unlawfully in the country.
The Immigration Prosecuting Officer
Reduan Hj Adnan said the defendant was caught when he failed to
produce his passport after having entered Brunei.
Awang Reduan told the court that Ling
was caught by the Police from the Kuala Belait police station near the
Riviera Hotel Staff House in Jalan Masjid, following a public
complaint.
Upon investigation, it is found that
he had entered Brunei six days ago from Miri through the Sungai Tujoh
Control Post without stopping his car for passport clearance but had
driven his car registration number QSC 7197 into Brunei without the
knowledge of the Immigration officer on duty. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
