Bush Fires Shuts Vital Road To Oil Town Belait

Seria - Raging bush fires continue to cause havoc in the sultanate.

The smoke filled Seria bypass from Lumut to Anduki remains closed following bush and peat fires in the area for almost a week.

It has created a dangerous situation in the oilfield area and police have cautioned motorists not to use the bypass route, which connects other districts with Kuala Belait.

The police placed signboards to direct road users and also advised the motorists to use the old road to proceed to the Belait District.

They said the Seria bypass would be open as soon as the situation was back to normal.

The bushfires is caused by the current dry spell and the heavy downfall last night in some parts in the Belait District helped reduce the flames from spreading.

Meanwhile, fire fighters remain busy in trying to put out the bushfires in many areas in the country.
