Bandar Seri Begawan - Two Thai nationals aged 33, who were caught in Thursday night's raid by Immigration officers, yesterday started serving their three month-jail- term for remaining unlawfully in the sultanate.

Immigration officers apprehended Buntum Suwansaeng and Alun Somsanuk as they failed to produce their passports.

They were subsequently brought for investigations where the Immigrations Prosecuting Officer, Hj Ansamawi Hj Tengah revealed that Buntum was supposed to return to Bangkok eight days after his employment pass had been cancelled on April 19, 1999.

However, he failed to do so and his pass was extended to May 13, 1999 and ever since he had disappeared for three years and 8 months until his arrest.

Meanwhile, Alun's story was that he stayed illegally in the country for 6 years and 6 months from July 17, 1996 until he was arrested recently. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
