Everything going smoothly as youths are shown the ropes

Village head with some young people raising the pole to hoist
National Flag
Kampung Salambigar and Kampung
Sungai Hanching Mukim Berakas "B" in the Brunei-Muara
district now have a permanent place to raise the flag - a pole
at the junction of Jalan Salambigar, Muara.
The flag, which will be hoisted
tomorrow, will represent all villages in the areas.
The village head, Hj Nor Hashim
Hj Nor, said that the flag-raising ceremony will be attended by
members of the community in the sur-rounding area.
"We are planning special
events around it in the near future, especially for celebrations
of the National Day and His Majesty's Birthday," he added.
He said that the land (on which
the flag will stand) would have a mini-garden. This beautifying
project will be done in stages and a gotong-royong spirit among
youths and other villagers.
The objective is to instil the
spirit of patriotism into young people. He said that youths must
be made aware of their roles and responsibilities to the country
as they represent the future of the nation.
It is vital to teach them
positive values now while they are young so that they will grow
up to be good citizens, said he.
He added that more activities
for youth development will be held.
One such programme is "Pesta
Sukan Ria Kemerdekaan," at Teratak Budaya in Kampung
Salambigar on March 9, 2003.
The event is expected to be
launched by the Brunei-Muara district officer, Dato Paduka Awg
Hj Harun.
