Winners of the LiveWire competition for the Category A4-Business
Plan Competition with their lecturers and the Vice-Chancellor of
UBD
Coming up with a unique and
original concept for a business idea is hard enough, but to
enter a prestigious competition and take home the first prize
shows that Bruneians have the potential to do business. And make
it.
The hard work and exhaustive
efforts of four enterprising UBD undergraduates paid off when
they were announced as winners of the Category for Business Plan
Competition - open category. Dyg Norsusieraini Awg Ismail, Dyg
Nur Nasuha Amalina Awg Tajuddin, Dyg Hjh Noor Maslina Hj
Sulaiman and Dyg Hjh Norsinahwati Hj Md Yassin are final year
students studying in UBD, reading Bachelor of Business
Administration.
The four were the first and
only UBD participants to enter their business plan to the
LiveWire competition this year. After undertaking a relatively
short period for their business research, they put together a
well-structured proposal on their 'Floating Seafood Paradise
Restaurant & Café'.
This floating restaurant was
founded on the concept of the nation's well-known Kg Ayer
features, with a touch of modernity. The restaurant is to be set
up on a ship form attached to stilts on water. In their aim, the
group stated that the restaurant is "to create a sense of
relaxation to its valuable customers". Safety, cleanliness
and health are their main priorities while serving fresh,
delicious cuisine at an affordable price.
Among the objectives of 'The
Floating Seafood Paradise Restaurant & Café' was to attract
to a large degree, tourists, as well as locals where they can
have their fill of seafood cuisine in a beautiful setting. It is
hoped to provide more employment opportunities for the locals.
When asked on challenges
regarding their journey to success, they commented on how they
hardly had any rest in trying to complete the project by the
deadline. Time was indeed a valuable and precious commodity for
the four women, where most weekends were spent finalising and
making sure every aspect was as required.
Luckily, their families and
close friends were understanding and even gave their support
during the critical times. During their presentation, family
members lent a hand in preparing the dishes that they required
while presenting their floating restaurant concept.
Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman - the
Vice Chancellor of UBD also took the time to congratulate the
UBD delegates.
When interviewed, Dr Hj Ismail
said he was proud and added that this will be seen as an
important starting point.
In the future, it is hoped that
more UBD students will take the initiative to enter such
competitions.
Besides promoting the quality
of UBD students, it will also give those students imperative and
valuable experience.
The vice chancellor also
underlined the importance of UBD students graduating not only
thinking of themselves as employees but also as budding future
employers.
