Two Chinese Malaysians were imposed a $1,000 fine each or 2 months prison in default after pleading guilty to smuggling contraband items twice into the country, yesterday.

Voon Pit Wu, 36, and Voon Ka Wei, 23, were stopped by Customs Preventive Officers at the incoming bay of the Kuala Lurah Control Post.

They were found to have conveyed 24 cans of Tiger beer, a bottle of white wine and 4 packets of Danish chicken wings on February 5.

They were also detained for smuggling 24 cans of Tiger beer and 1 bottle of white wine in the same car on January 31, 2003.

Investigations revealed that half of the beer, the chicken wings and the bottle of wine belonged to Voon Pit Wu while the remaining items belonged to Voon Ka Wei.

They both admitted to importing the items illegally on both February 5 and January 31 from Limbang for their own consumption.

The contrabands were forfeited to the state.
