Foreigners fined for consuming Syabu

By Rol Ezam

A foreign duo from Malaysia and Thailand were each fined $1,500 or 3 months imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday after both pleaded guilty to consuming Methylamphetamine or locally known as ‘Syabu’.

The Narcotics Control Bureau Prosecuting Officers ANO Pg Othman Pg Hj Ali said the two, Abdul Rahman Abdullah, 29, and Surajit Sorhiran, 37, were caught consuming the class A controlled drugs on January 21 this year.

Personnel from NCB caught them at a house in Jalan Jasmine, Beribi. At the said house, both including three others were detained on suspicion of drug-related activity, ANO Pg Othman told the court.

The court further heard that on the same day, both were brought to RIPAS hospital for physical examination and urine sample was taken for analysis at the Department of Scientific Services of the Ministry of Health.

It was later found to contain the said drugs.
