Telecoms Focuses On Temburong Development

Temburong - Despite being located quite a distance away from the country's centre of administration, the Temburong District is not cut off from the world outside thanks to the sophisticated global information and communication technology.

Communications Minister Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria stated this during a meeting with mukim penghulus, kampong ketuas and heads of longhouses in the district.

At the meeting the Communications Minister mentioned about the privatisation of the Telecom Department.

He said as from April 1, 2003, provision of all telephone services will be taken over by the Syarikat Telecom Brunei or TelBru.

Prior to the meeting, Pehin Zakaria made visits to several departments under his ministry.

The minister and entourage first stop was the Postal Services Department. The department began its operation more than 40 years ago.

This was followed by a visit to the Telecom Department. It began its operation in 1965 with only supplying services to offices, which is now providing various services to the public.

The minister's next destination was the Land Transport Department.
