Brunei In Doha For Gas Export

The 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF)
held in Doha, Qatar discussed the outcome of studies by Iran and
Algeria on the framework on the implementation of gas projects and
European Union Gas Market.
According to Brunei Industry and
Primary Resources Ministry Pehin Dato Awang Haji Abdul Rahman, Iran
has produced a database to be used by GCEF member countries, which
contains frameworks on the number of models of agreements and
contracts for projects in natural gas industry.
The models will become the basis for
creating specific contract for each country.
Speaking about Algeria's study on the
EU gas market, the Pehin Abdul Rahman said GCEF now has better
understanding on the effects of energy market on any markets that
cause uncertainty on demands in gas in a short-term.
The outcome of the study has also
influenced the making of long-term strategies by gas exporting
countries.
Pehin Abdul Rahman added that the
meeting has agreed for the group of experts on gas, to continue
discussing the forms and action plans, which include demands on
developments models and global gas supply, the enhancement of
technology and cost in gas usage and the use of compressed natural
gas.
The meeting has also considered
holding discussions with Asean countries on gas market development in
the region.
The proposals of the group would be
tabled at the next GCEF meeting to be held in Egypt.
The Emir of Qatar, His Highness
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani officially opened the 3rd meeting of
the Exporting Countries Forum.
Apart from Brunei and the host
country, the meeting was also attended by Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia,
Iran, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Russia, Trinidad and
Tobago and the United Arab Emirates.
