Despite being quite cut off from the centre of administration,
the Temburong District enjoys global communication. Thanks to
today’s state-of-the-art information technology, the district
has access to the outside world, RTB reported yesterday.
The Minister of Communications
Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria made the observation at a meeting
yesterday with Penghulu Mukims, Ketua Kampongs and heads of
longhouses during a working visit to departments under his
ministry in the Temburong District.
The minister also disclosed the
government’s plan to privastise the Telecommunication
Department.
He said as from April 1 this
year, provision of all telephone services will be taken over by
Syarikat Telekom Brunei or Telbru.
Earlier on in the day, he
visited several departments under the Ministry of
Communications. His first stop was at the Postal Services
Department.
The department began its
operation in the district more than 40 years ago.
It moved to its present
premises at the Government Departments Complex in 1990.
Among the services offered by
the department are stamp selling, money remittance, telegram,
registered mail, renewal of driving licence and road-tax to name
a few.
Pehin Dato Awang Haji Zakaria
then proceeded to the Telecom Department.
The department started its
operation in 1965 providing services only to offices.
The Land Transport Department
also came under the minister’s scrutiny. This department plays
a role in dealing with application for setting up driving test,
in issuing provisional and professional driving licence, traffic
regulation, road-tax, transfer of vehicle ownership and
inspection of private and commercial vehicles as well as
vehicles involved in accidents.
