Indonesia's Ambassador to
Brunei Darussalam, Yusbar Djamil and his wife, Ibu Praptiningsih
Yusbar, yesterday made a goodwill visit to the Belait District
Officer for an official introduction since the diplomat’s
appointment in June last year.
Accompanied by eight officials
from the Indonesian embassy, they also toured various sites
including agricultural industries, Kuala Belait cooperative and
the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre in the district.
At the Belait District Office,
the ambassador said he hoped that his visit would be beneficial
to all in increasing economic interaction as well as
establishing friendly ties between the Indonesians and people of
Belait District.
“This is my first but not
last visit to Belait District, as it is one of the districts
which proved to be resourceful and has assisted the country in
economic and social development,” he said in a speech.
The ambassador was informed by
Assistant District Officer Awg Hj Ali bin Mat Yassin that the
district has a population of 66,244. He was also told the
mission of Belait District Office in developing and improving
the rural areas as well as maintaining the peaceful lifestyle
through the Chief Mukim and Head Villages or Longhouses.
In the evening, the ambassador
and his delegation made a stopover at the Jubilee Recreational
Park to meet with Indonesians residing in the district.
Meanwhile, Brunei Shell
Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) yesterday said it was honoured
with the working visit of the Indonesian ambassador to the Oil
and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC).
Upon arrival at OGDC, the
delegation was greeted by Finance Director of BSP, Mr Reidar W.
Saugstad, BSP said in a press release. Also on hand to welcome
the guests were Acting Corporate External Affairs Adviser, Masni
Hj Munir and Head of OGDC, Neville Petrie.
Their programme at OGDC began
with a brief presentation by Mr Reidar on the overview of last
year’s activities carried out by BSP.
This included the oil
production over the years including last year as well as the
excellent performances that were showed by the different Asset
and Service Units in BSP as well as the importance of safety
aspects practised by the company. Prior to the tour to the
exhibition hall, the Indonesian visitors were given a
presentation that explained the objectives, functions and
facilities that are available in OGDC.
Among the objectives of OGDC is
to create a mindset among the people especially the new
generations that science education is an interesting and fun
subject and at OGDC the visitors will able to experience
hands-on learning in particular at the Interactive section of
the Exhibition Hall.
OGDC is another flagship of
Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) that reiterates its
long-term commitment towards sustainable development of Brunei
Darussalam and its people.
It also has been recognised as
a new landmark in Belait district that contributed to the
development of tourism industry in the district and Brunei
Darussalam as a whole.
The Indonesian delegation
accompanied by Belait District Officer, Awg Adnan Haji Hanafiah,
then toured the exhibition hall of OGDC that features various
technologies involved in the exploration and production of oil
and gas that embrace petroleum science as well as other facet of
general sciences.
