The long queue at the Kuala Lurah Border Control Post
After the long holiday break
for Chinese New Year celebration, the Chinese community were
seen making a beeline for the border control posts to get back
to their work and duties in the Sultanate.
The large number of people and
long queue of vehicles was the norm at the border crossing
checkpoint, which created a busy day for the Immigration and
Custom staffs on duty.
Most people especially the
Chinese left the country weeks ago before the start of the
celebrations and had to now return to their regular jobs.
For the Immigration and Customs
officers at the border checkpoint, such a situation was
considered normal. Not only Chinese but other people especially
local Bruneians had left the country to visit their family
members during the holiday.
Despite the large number of
vehicles, the situation was not as bad as compared to several
weeks ago before the start of the CNY.
It is believed that the busiest
time faced by the Immigration staff at the checkpoints are
public holidays as many people use this time to travel to spend
their leisure time away from home.
The curb with the large number
of travellers and for the smooth running of the vehicles, Police
personnel stationed at the border were also busy controlling
traffic.
Most people, especially those
heading to other parts of Sabah and Sawarak preferred the long
hours driving home as this would allow them to bring their car,
which they could use back home.
