More Local Professionals Enable Overseas Direct Links

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Permanent Secretary at the Development Ministry Dato Haji Abdul Majid said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has identified new approach towards improving human resource development.

According to Dato Haji Majid the move will give way to the department's vision of shaping JKR 2006.

He said with the increase in the number of professionally educated local workforce, the department is now able to build direct links with international institutions.

The Institute of Chartered Engineer (ICE), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Royal Institutes of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) are among those mentioned by the Development Permanent Secretary.

He went on the add that apart from organising various programmes designed to develop multi-skill human resources, the department is also planning to enhance the aspect of human resource management.

Dato Haji Majid was speaking at a daylong JKR Seminar 2003 yesterday.

To date 82 officers and staff of the department have achieved professional recognition, he said.

JKR Seminar 2003 was part of the department's preparation towards facing future challenges in human resources.

The prime goal is to achieve the highest standard of services by 2006 when the department celebrates its 100 years of formation.
