Correct Way To Place Royal
Portraits After The Divorce
By Malai Hassan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - There was some confusion yesterday over the correct
way of placing the royal portraits of His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei
and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha.
Meanwhile, instruction was issued
from the Prime Minister's Office to all government departments and
agencies to display only the portraits of His Majesty Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha at
their premises.
The instruction that came in the form
of a memo was issued following the royal announcement on the break up
of a royal marriage between His Majesty and his former second wife.
The Bulletin also reported yesterday
the explanation from the office of the Adat Istiadat on the correct
way of positioning the portraits of His Majesty and Her Majesty.
But some were apparently confused if
the portrait of Her Majesty should be on the right hand side of His
Majesty or on the left side.
However, the Adat Istiadat office
when contacted yesterday said the correct position is already clearly
stated in the memo issued by the Prime Minister's Office and people
should follow that instruction.
According to the memo the portrait of
Her Majesty Raja Isteri should be placed to the left side of His
Majesty's portrait and it should be placed on the same level with the
portrait of His Majesty.
The office of Adat Istiadat said that
this is the correct position when placing the royal portraits on the
walls.
It explained further that from the
viewpoint of viewers, the portrait of His Majesty should be on the
left-hand side of the viewers while Her Majesty Raja Isteri's portrait
should be on the right-hand side of the viewers. (Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin)
