Ruler Thief Had Much More On Him,
Court Hears

Begawan - The 39 year-old Malaysian who was released on bail
for theft of a ruler a week ago and remanded was brought again to the
Magistrate's Court yesterday with new charges of the same nature.
Police prosecuting officer said the
defendant Phang Ngit Jong, 39, had tried to abscond from Brunei
through Sungai Tujoh Control Post a day before he was brought to court
while he was released on bail.
However, he was caught by the
Narcotic Control Bureau officers who were conducting a roadblock. When
asked about his passport, the defendant said his passport was with the
police. As a result, he was send to the Immigration Department for
being not in possession of travel documents.
On hearing that, Magistrate Abdullah
revoked the bail conditions and ordered him to be remanded at the
Jerudong Prison until the further hearing set on the February 11 at 3
pm.
No plea was taken yet for the new
charge he faced.
The defendant was charged with
committing theft of a desktop computer worth $5,000, one Apple laptop
priced at $7,000, a LCD monitor costing $700, a PDA computer at
$1,200, a sound system computer costing $1,200, a radio cassette
player worth $40, a VCD player priced at $700 and a pair of jungle
boots costing $60.
