The first joint camp held at
the Pantai Seri Kenangan, Tutong, between the Royal Brunei Air
Force (RBAF) and Air Scout Movement of Brunei Darussalam, turned
out to be a success. Participants comprised 198 personnel from
the RBAF and Air Scout Movement.
The objective of the joint camp
was to share knowledge and experience, and to strengthen ties
between RBAF members and the Air Scout Movement through their
activities as well as to foster self-reliance, confidence and
co-operation through patrol system.
With the guidance of the RBAF
No.4 Squadron personnel, the two-day camp taught the air scouts
various basic techniques and methods of good leadership,
security, first-aid, map reading, compass and radio
communications. In return, they shared experiences of knotting,
camping, campfire, scout law, promise, camp inspection and
various scout games.
The camp ended with a closing
ceremony officiated by Lt.Col (U) Hj Mohammad Rashid Asat,
Acting Deputy Commander of RBAF. The guest of honour for the
event was the Tutong District Officer, Awg Hepnie OKPSD Abang Hj
Abu Hanifah.
Also at the closing ceremony,
the Acting Deputy Commander of RBAF conferred Skipper Hj Hasnan
Hj Shari, International Leader Trainer and National Leader
Trainer of the Scout Association, Negara Brunei Darussalam, with
the Honorary Air Scout Wing.
Skipper Hj Hasnan, who started
as a Boy Scout in 1957 is now the Scout Commissioner of
Information and Activity at the Brunei Scout Headquarters in
Gadong. He attended various scouting courses and was appointed
by the Scout World Bureau, Geneva, Switzerland in 1982 as the
National Trainer of the Sultanate and is a holder of 4 beats.
Camping is very much a part of
scouting. It is an activity undertaken by most members at one
time or another during scout life.
