Thirty-eight passengers, including two tour guides from Freme Travel, went on a three days/ two nights trip to Mulu recently. They went on a chartered flight that flew directly to and from Mulu in the neighbouring Malaysian state of Sarawak. The flight took only took about 35 minutes.

In the Dornier aircraft, the tourists had a breathtaking bird’s eye view of Mulu’s attractions such as the dramatic towering Pinnacles and jungle-shrouded waterways.

At Mulu airport, two vans were ready to transfer the visitors to the Royal Mulu Resort. After lunch, local tour guides escorted the passengers to two of Mulu’s magnificent caves.

The 45 minutes to one hour journey to the two caves was made on foot through the jungle from the headquarters of Mulu National Park. After visiting the two beautiful “show” caves, the tourists waited at an open space for around three million bats to fly out in search of food just as the sun began to set.

The next day, the trip covered the Clearwater and Wind caves, the other two of Mulu’s world renowned show caves. The caves were reached by taking a longboat ride up the Melinau river.

On the way to the caves, a variety of handicrafts made by Penan, a semi-nomadic tribe were for sale.

From Wind Cave, the visitors proceeded to Clearwater Cave, Asia’s longest cave. At the cave, clear water tempted the tourists to a take a dip in the refreshing water surrounded by limestone.

After lunch at the Clearwater Rest House, the visitors had ample time to either swim, rest or do some outdoor activity.

The next day was another day of leisure until time for departure back to Brunei.
