Illegal Karaoke Operator Penalised

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local karaoke operator was yesterday fined $4,500 in default 4 months jail when he pleaded guilty begore the Magistrates court to two charges under the Public Entertainment Act.

Hj Masri Hj Kassim admitted that he had provided illegal karaoke entertainment to customers at his restaurant which did not have an entertainment licence.

Attorney-General's Chambers Prosecuting Officer Hj Afif Daraina who was assisted by Suriana bte Radin revealed that a team of anti-vice police officers raided Mas Seri restaurant in Kg Maraburong at about 9.20 pm on September 10, 2001 where they found several equipment believed to be used in providing karaoke entertainment to his customers such as speakers, microphones and televisions.

The prosecution informed the court that there was no excuse for Hj Masri to not possess a licence on the date he was caught for the offence even though he had been applying for a 'Sijil Rampaian' for almost nine months.
