Pehin Onn and family members in front of their home
Festivities for the second day
of the Chinese New Year were celebrated with lively and
colourful Lion Dance performances at the residence of Pehin Onn
Siew Siong in Beribi.
Also present at the function
were some VIPs, like the Australian High Commisioner Mr Allaster
Cox, who fed an ‘Ang Pau’ into the Lion’s mouth, which is
a Chinese Tradition.
The Lion Dance performance was
accompanied by the rhythm of the drum roll and cymbals for a
more lively atmosphere.
Visitors to the ‘open
house’ were also treated to a sumptuous buffet.
The Lion Dance Troop, which
consists of Chung Hwa Middle School students from Bandar Seri
Begawan, have been performing from day one of the Chinese New
Year. A truck carrying the troop is a common sight on every
Chinese New Year celebration.
The visitors not only had an
opportunity to mingle with the hosts and other guests, but also
sample a wide variety of food. Most of the Chinese community
brought in catereres for this reason.
The ‘open house’ concept,
which has long been practised in Brunei, shows the strong unity
of the various races in the country, especially with visits from
several senior government officials.
Children were seen having an
enjoyable time as they received red packets containing money,
better known as ‘Ang Pow.’
