Give way or be hit by these road menaces
Roaming cattle and other
four-legged animals are on the roads, despite stern warnings
made by relevant authorities to free Brunei roads from these
four-legged menaces.
These animals wander on the
main roads and highways and remain one of the biggest
contributors to accidents.
Residents of these animal
infested areas said that these bulky animals not only damage
their plants, but also make the surroundings messy with their
droppings.
An anonymous caller contacted
the bulletin yesterday and said that he nearly hit a buffalo
while driving at Jalan Bengkurong Masin on his way to visit a
Chinese friend on the second day of Chinese New Year. “I was
lucky that I managed to control my car when some buffalos made a
sudden move to cross the road,” he said.
There have been several
collisions involving motorists and cattle, recorded by the Royal
Brunei Police. Much of the blame rests on the owners of the
cattle who still ignore warnings made by relevant authorities.
They said the cattle are a real burden to drivers who are forced
to come to a screeching halt whenever a bull or a heifer decides
to take a walk on the wild side.
Motorists have been urging
relevant authorities to take stern action on cattle owners who
ignore warnings, as the buffalos are a serious hazard to
motorists.
