Lim Ren Chong scored 9 A1’s and 1 B3 for his ‘O’ Level examination

Bruneian Lim Ren Chong achieved outstanding results in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination 2002. Lim from the Paduka Seri Begawan Science College, scored 9 A1’s and 1 B3 for his ‘O’ Level examination.

For the past years, Bruneian students have achieved excellent results in the Brunei Cambridge GCE Examinations. From the statement released by the Department of Examinations, a total of 369 candidates got eight and nine ‘O’ Level passes this year.

Lim is the first student to achieve 10 ‘O’ Level passes in Brunei Darussalam. He got A1 in English Language, Geography, History, Mathematics ‘D’, Additional Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Studies as well as a B in Malay Language.

The Deputy Principal of Science College, Pg Hjh Rosnani binti Pg Hj Jeludin described him as an all rounder student.

“Lim has been excellent in his academics and represents the college in all activities and forums.

“We were optimistic and always supported him when he took the 10 subjects for the ‘O’ Level Examination,” the Principal stated.

Lim said that the key of success was to keep focussed on their studies and preserve the importance of time management.

Being a PC gamers and fantasy books addict himself, he said that nonsense and unnecessary activity such as smoking, drugs and love at high school, could distract a student’s focus on their studies.

Concentration in the classroom and revision at home is essential for success.

While in Form 4, he was selected to represent Brunei for the High School Students Exchange Programme for Japan and Asean.

He has won the Level III category for the Inforama 2001 & 2002 Competition. This level included K@ICT ideas, project, skills and IBM@ school - Image Building and Marketing of School.

In cultural events, he is an active participant in the college’s Gulingtangan team, in which the Science College won the Inter-schools Gulingtangan Competition for the year 2002.

He was also the runner-up for the Explore Math Competition 2002. Apart from soccer as a hobby, he spends his free time learning more about Cosmology, Astronomy and the Japanese Language.

Delighted with his success, Lim thanked his family especially his father for his continuous support.

He thanked the college administration, teachers especially Cikgu Saadiah the ex-deputy principal and Mr. Lam for their valuable advise.

He urged his fellow students to strive towards excellent at what they are good at, to have patience and never give up.
