Bandar Seri Begawan - From less than a week, we will celebrate the year 2009. Some of us may have plans to go for a picnic, beach gathering, fishing or even get together within the close families and friends. Thus some of us hoping that the weather will be on our side as to enjoy the moments and time for the carefully planned activities especially for the upcoming celebration new year 2009. Some may say the weather of the day affects the moods and spirits of the gathering event.

Weather is vital because it helps the people to be prepared and to be more cautious as for instance families and friends from Kuching, Kota Kinabalu or Bintulu plans to travel to the Sultanate to visit their families and friends. As for the locals, those who want to travel to the rural areas of the country, they need to ensure their safety as to hinder any accidents or major difficulties.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Musa who now works at one of the civil department explained that one of his regular routines during long holidays is to go fishing at the sea thus for him the weather information is vital as to avoid problems while he is at sea.
 

He added that based on the information about the weather condition he may also be able to predict types of fishes that he can catch on that day.

Kimberly from Kampung Rimba told The Brunei Times that for her to actually know the weather condition particularly during the weekend is vital because she plans to have an outing with her cousins at the Muara Beach. With the early weather prediction she have the chance to think for another event for that day thus her time and effort will not be wasted.

With regards of the current weather, The Brunei Times has also try to contact the Brunei Darussalam meteorological service, department of civil aviation. It was told that in the month of December is the starting month of the northeast monsoon in the Sultanate. The mean minimum temperature for December is 23.2 degrees Celsius whereas the mean maximum temperature of the month is 31.1 degrees Celsius. The monsoon will hopefully end sometimes in March 2009.

Thus there will be more showers and thunderstorms expected during the first half of the monsoon period which is in December and January.

According to the statement stated the weather for 25th till 27th December shows that there will be partly cloudy with a- chance of unsettled weather condition. Occasionally there are some crossings of showers or thunderstorms, in between fair weather are expected particularly around midday until the evening.

Wind is expected to be light and variable in the morning and night times and northwesterly or northerly at 10-25km/h in the afternoon on land and northeasterly up to 40km/h at sea throughout the day. Sea states are moderate to rough at 1.5m-2.5m. Meanwhile the sea conditions are dangerous particularly to small vessels.

Meanwhile for 28th till 31st December stated that there will be a chance of isolated crossing of showers mostly over coastal areas.

Isolated coastal showers are again expected around midday with some slight showers or thunderstorms mostly over inland areas in the afternoon. However squally showers can also be expected to cross the country.Wind is expected to be light and variable in the morning and night times and northwesterly or northerly at 10-25 km/h in the later part of the afternoon.
