Health Ministry To Use BSP Balanced Scorecard
By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Health will soon implement the BSP Balanced Scorecard system within the ministry's departments and hospitals to effectively reach its targets and improve public services in a more comprehensive manner.

This was said by Pehin Dato Hj Suyoi Hj Osman, the Minister of Health, during a press interview while visiting the Head Office of BSP in Panaga, Seria, yesterday morning to learn BSP's best practices on the scorecard's uses and benefits.

He added that in its strategic planning, the ministry has lined up various programmes and projects to add to its public services and also increase their quality.

Therefore,,the ministry requires a system to measure its rate of achievements in executing the lists of targets or plans, so it would produce the desired results towards reaching its vision and goals.

The minister expressed hopes that the scorecard would enable improvements and an increase in effectiveness by focusing on vital performance indicators, particularly towards identifying weaknesses.

He added that BSP has used the system to evaluate its performances and the ministry also wished to observe more closely its implementation and learn how it could be applied more effectively.

Apart from this, BSP is also a partner with the ministry in several projects, and the visit was meant to foster closer relations between them.

Meanwhile, in his remarks, BSP's Managing Director said that BSP is honoured to share its best practices with the ministry. The implementation of a Balanced Scorecard helps an organisation to track key activities that are required to deliver business goals within the agreed time frame.

The managing director noted that the visit reflects the strong existing relationship between BSP and the ministry that includes working in many areas of mutual interest on health-related subjects and developing the new Health Promotion Centre in the capital.

Also among the visiting delegates were Deputy Minister of Health Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Hazair and Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Abd Salam.

A Balanced Scorecard helps an organisation evaluate how well it meets its strategic objectives and it typically has four to six components - each with a series of sub-measures. Each component also highlights one aspect of the business.   -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
