Christmas Joy No Matter Where Filipinos Are
By Ben Ng

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Christmas spirit was definitely present last night at the residence of Philippines Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Virginia Benavidez, resplendent with magnificent decorations, including several miniature Christmas villages mesmerising those who entered.

"For us Filipinos, it's a much celebrated event," said the ambassador of one of the most festive seasons in Filipino culture. "So wherever Filipinos are, back home or all over the world, every Christmas, we follow the same customs and traditions. So today is Christmas Eve, and we usually greet Christmas tonight. You will see that in the Philippines and all over the world, you'll find the same preparations going on."

"The kitchen will be very busy, as will the family, and we will be looking forward to the Christmas get-together at 12 midnight," said the ambassador last night. We will have prayers tonight and then we will have the family dinner with close friends."

"We will share the Christmas meal which is very special compared to other dinners. So tomorrow we will have Christmas lunch and spend the day with close friends and family," added Ms Benavidez.

The ambassador also said that the Christmas celebrations are a family tradition, and it takes about two to three weeks to prepare for the festivities.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
