Takbir Aidil Adha Precedes Festivity

Bandar Seri Begawan - Muslims in the country joined together with other Muslims of the world in celebrating the Aidil Adha which falls today in Brunei Darussalam where Islam encourages its followers to practice extra religious activity and one of it is the recitation of takbir or words of praise to Allah.

One of the mosques who held the ceremony was Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kiarong last evening which was attended by Muslims from the nearby village as well as those from other villages such as from Kampong Rimba, Mata-Mata, Masin and Sungai Besar.

Present was Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Sei Utama Dr Ustaz Awg Mohd Zin Serudin who led the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah. Deputy Religious Minister, Pehin Udana Khatib, Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Othman was also present along with permanent secretaries and, senior religious officials.

The nation will also hold the mass Aidil Adha prayers early this morning at mosques, suraus and prayer halls all over the country and the Tame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah will be one of the main mosques for the special event.

Adding to the special prayers, the feast of sacrifice will also take place for three days beginning from today until the 12th of Zulhijjah which is a practice conducted by Muslims from both the public and privates sectors as well as individuals.

For some Muslims in the country, an open-house would also be held bringing together friends and families to celebrate the auspicious day for Muslims.

Muslims all over the world observe Aidil Adha on the 10th day of Zulhijjah, the last month of the Muslim calendar. This festival is celebrated in conjunction with the pilgrimages performed by Muslims.

Called the Haj and to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's spirit of Korban or sacrifice, thus, in Brunei Darussalam, Hari Raya Aidil Adha is also known as Hari Raya Haji or Hari Raya Korban.

In Mekah, the Haj pilgrims will now be making their way to Mudzalifah after the stoning ritual in Mina, that symbolises the commencement of Aidil Adha for Muslims the world over. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
