Health Tip: If Someone is Struck
by Lightning
If you see someone who has been
struck by lightning, here are suggestions on what to do, courtesy of
the American Red Cross:
- Call 911 immediately.
- It is safe to touch the
person, as they cannot transfer lightning or its electrical
charge to someone else.
- Check the person for burns,
which can emerge anywhere on the body. Also look for broken
bones, or damage to the nervous system, hearing, or eyesight.
- If the person is not breathing
or the heart has stopped, administer CPR at once.
