Operasi E Overall Winner

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Fire and Rescue Department's annual Sports Meet concluded yesterday with the 995 Marathon at the track and field of Fire and Rescue Department, Old Airport Road.

The marathon was divided into two categories. Emrun bin Atar of Cawangan E finished the 12km run in 54 minutes and 34 seconds to take home the champion trophy in the Open Category. Second place went to Mohd Sufri bin Hj Mohd Yussuff of Special Squad in one hour while Omar Shah bin Hj Hassan ofOperasi E came in third with a time of 1 hour and 22 minutes.

In the Veteran Category, ASO Unding Anak Lagat of Operasi B completed the 8km run in 40minutes and 35 second to emerge first.

DSO Suhairni bin Hj Muhammad from Training Centre took second place after finishing the race in 41 minutes 29 seconds and DSO Hj Latiff of Operasi B was in third place with a time of 42 minutes and 12 seconds.

The challenge trophy went to Cawangan Operasi E for bagging two gold medals in the volleyball and tug-of-war events. Second place went to Headquarter/Training Centre with one gold and two silvers while third place went to Special Squad with one gold and two bronze medals.

The award for best shooter who top scored with 26 points in the netball event went to ABWKS No 39 Noraini binti Kabin.

The guest-of-honour Acting Director of Fire and Rescue Department, Pg Hj Mohd Daud bin Pg Hj Mohammad presented the prizes to the winners.

The annual sport meet started on Dec 3 and seven sporting events were contested namely, volleyball, netball, football, ping pong, badminton, sepak takraw and tugof-war.

The objectives of the meet are to foster closer relations and sportsmanship among all the rank of the personnel of the fire and rescue teams around the country as well as to scout for talented personnel to compete in the Fire and Rescue Borneo Sport Event which is expected to be held in March next year. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
