RBPF Clarifies
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Royal Brunei Police Force clarified that the
Society Act only applies to clubs, companies, partnerships and
associations and does not refer to public entertainment as was
quoted in the paper.
The clarification is referring to
the Bulletin news item published on December 23, 2006, entitled "No
Revelry on New Year's Eve"- where it mentioned that organisers of a
gathering of more than 10 people for an event would have to inform
the police.
However, public entertainments such
as musical performances, singing, dancing, film shows and commercial
shows will still need approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
And anyone who holds or assists in
organising public entertainment without approval could face a
maximum fine of B$10,000 for the first offence. For the subsequent
offence, the penalty will be doubled where the offender might face
imprisonment of not more than two years.-- Courtesy of Borneo
