Of Al-Quran
By Shafiyi Azahari
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Ministry of Health held their first-ever khatam
Al Quran ceremony for 25 of its officers and staff at the Nurses
Advance Education Unit at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (Ripas)
hospital yesterday.
The Minister of Health, Pehin Orang
Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Suyoi Osman and wife, Datin
Asmah Abdul Rahman, was accompanied by the Deputy Minister, Pehin
Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Hazair and wife, Datin
Rosnah Pehin Datu Indera Sugara Dato Seri Laila Jasa Johari.
The event began with the mass
recitation of Surah AlFatihah from the audience of about 90 officers
and staff led by the minister which later proceeded to the
recitation of the Quran verses to complete the reading of its 30
chapters.
A total of 11 male and 14 female
personnel were honoured in the ceremony which was concluded with a
certificate presentation ceremony.
Prior to that, khatam prayers were
read to bless those present which proceeded with a religious
performance of dikir marhaban and merenjis minyak wangi or placing
fragant oil on the participants' hands.
The initial recitation of the first
chapter of the Holy Quran began since July this year which was
supervised by religious teachers from the religious unit at the
hospital.
The event was also intended to
support His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam's royal speech whereby all civil servants should read the
Holy Quran before beginning their daily duties.
Such religious activities were also
organised to encourage the staff at Ripas hospital to lead a
spiritual life as it is one of the ways of receiving blessings from
Allah which in turn would help the staff and personnel in carrying
out their duties and responsibilities diligently. -- Courtesy of
