By Yusrin Junaidi

Bandar Seri Begawan - The RIPAS Hospital in the capital held a 'Khatam alQuran' ceremony for 25 of its officers and staff yesterday, at the hospital's Unit Pendidikan Lanjutan Kejururawatan (UPLK).

Present as guest of honour at the ceremony was the Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, who was accompanied by his wife. Also in attendance were the Deputy Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Ha7air bin Hj Abdullah, senior officers and staff and some invited guests.

The ceremony began with the reading of the Surah alFatihah which was led by the guest of honour. Participants of the Khatam al-Quran then performed the main ceremony of reading the "Surah Khatam", which was followed by a "Dzikir Marhaban".

The guest of honour was later on hand to perform the "Merenjis Minyak Wangi" or sprinkling of scented water on the 25 Khatam participants.

The event, the first of its kind to be organised by the RIPAS Hospital, is now expected to be held as an annual event. The 25 participants comprised 11 male and 14 female officers and staff from several different departments of the RIPAS Hospital. The guest of honour was later presented with a souvenir to mark the occasion. The event ended with a 'doa selamat' to bless the ceremony. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
