Tourism Campaign Gaining Momentum
By Azrol Azmi
Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei
Tourism Board is embarking on a domestic awareness campaign to
highlight the importance of the tourism industry as a key driver for
the country's economic diversification plans and employment
opportunities
The campaign, dubbed "Kenali Negara
Kitani" ("Get To Know Our Country"), also calls on locals to take
time out to explore the wonders of Brunei during weekends and
holidays.
A presentation of the campaign was
yesterday held for more than 100 village chiefs, penghulus as well
as mukim and district officers at the Brunei-Muara District Office
in Berakas.
Also present were Chief Executive
Officer of Brunei Tourism Board Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamed,
BruneiMuara District Officer Dato Awang Haji Md Yussop bin Bakar,
and Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer Awang Haji Jamain bin
Momin.
According to the Brunei Tourism
Board, private companies in the tourism line, such as hotels and
tour operators, who want to take the opportunity in developing the
domestic tourism industry, will be signed on as "KNK partners".
The campaign also welcomes villages
with special places of interest, activities, scenic spots, food
specialties, handicrafts and other attractions to come on board.
Both the tourism industry and
village-level KNK partners will then be encouraged to develop
mutually beneficial business arrangements to drive demands for
domestic tourism products across the country, which will be
supported by the year-long KNK marketing campaign.
Currently, some 25 establishments
have signed on as KNK partners. As the campaign gains momentum, the
Brunei Tourism Board is promoting the KNK initiative and its
benefits to village chiefs and penghulus.
Meanwhile, presentations on the KNK
campaign will be conducted at ministries and other government
agencies, schools and relevant organisations.-- Courtesy of Borneo
