15 Foreigners Netted In Ops
Berakas 126
By Za'im Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - More than 65% of immigration offenders have
committed offences under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, which
is for overstaying.
This was determined by the
Immigration and National Registration Law Enforcement Section
Department after it conducted 126 operations.
They also found that employers are
still taking on immigration offenders, a move which could see the
employer being charged under Chapter 55 (1) (e) of the Immigration
Act.
In their latest operation -
codenamed Ops Berakas 126 - officials inspected four locations in Kg
Lugu, Kg Katimahar, Kg Jerudong and a construction site in Kg Keriam
Tutong. Twenty-one officers were involved in the 9 am to 11.30 am
raid, which was led by the Acting Deputy_ Director of Immigration,
Assistant Director of Immigration and Senior Chief Immigration
Officer.
Five special passes and two summon
letters were issued during the raid. Fifteen foreign nationals were
netted after failing to produce valid documents. The 15 comprised of
nine Indonesian men, one Malaysian man, a Filipino and a Thai
national.
During the raid, a 23-year-old
Filipino failed in his attempt to flee from the construction site he
was illegally working at.
