Skills
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Possessing knowledge and personal characteristics
alone is not enough to make a good leader, because he also needs to
understand the field, roles, rules and regulation of the respective
organisation that he leads.
This was said by University Brunei
Darussalam (UBD) Vice Chancellor cum guest of honour Dato Paduka Dr
Awang Hj Ismail bin Hj Duraman during the launch of the UBD
Leadership Course for Students Council yesterday morning.
The guest of honour hopes the
course will suit members of the Student Council, before they go on
to take the first step towards shouldering responsibilities. The
vice chancellor also hopes the course would provide participants an
in-depth impression in developing the personality of each
participant.
He pointed out the importance of
partaking in activities, saying that such involvement would be
healthy and would provide training towards the role and behaviour
mannerism of a leader.
In a separate speech, Acting
Student Dean Dr Hajah Sainah binti Hj Saim highlighted the
objectives of the course. This includes providing knowledge on a
number of management and administrative aspects of the student
council. The knowledge will aid the newly elected members of the UBD
Student Council.
The course will see talks focusing
on the university, which will be delivered by the assistant vice
chancellor, acting registrar, secretary, treasurer and assistant
registrar. She also expressed hopes that Student Council members
will take the opportunity to train themselves in becoming good
leaders.
Sixteen members of the Student
Council will be participating in the course in hopes of gaining
