By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - The newly elected student council president of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Awang Md Amirol bin Abd Rahim, has high hopes of providing better facilities for his fellow undergraduates to ensure a better environment for studies.

Awang Md Amirol, a third year undergraduate of UBD, was elected president of UBD's student council out of over 50 nominees from various faculties in the university.

The Sport Education undergrad hopes he can fulfil the responsibilities as president of the student council.

In an interview, he outlined several plans to better the facilities of the university. - "We want to create a PM UBD (student council) website for easier access for students to communicate with council members and vice versa," he said.

"We also plan to have Wi-Max available throughout the UBD campus for easier Internet access and launch a cyber cafe to be run by the student council committee members.

"We also would like to organise local and international activities for the community such as garage sales, a car wash and a triathlon," he added.

Meanwhile, for the benefit of clubs in UBD, Awang Md Amirol said they were also planning to install pigeonholes for clubs in the University for students to communicate with their respective clubs. He also hopes lockers can be installed in each faculty for students to store their belongings.

Awang MdAmirol encouraged students to meet with him to discuss procedures in organising activities in order for him to offer guidance and answer their inquires. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
