Bandar Seri
Begawan - Following a report from the National Agency of Food
and Drug Control from several countries of the discovery that some
traditional medicines had, according to the report been "adulterated
with schedule poison", the Ministry of Health immediately held a
press briefing yesterday to warn the public.
Four of these traditional medicines
have been found to be sold in local shops, which had been illegally
imported.
The four products are Dewa Manjur
99 Sehat Stamina Powder, manufactured by Dewa Mega Jaya PJ in
Banyumas, which is adulterated with Paracetamol and Phenylbutazone,
Asmur, or Mahkota Dewa Plus Ginseng Powder, manufactured by,Serbuk
Sari PJ in Cilacap that contains Phenyl butazone, Daun Dewa powder,
manufactured by Daun Dewa Alarm PJ in Cilacap which is also
adulterated by Phenylbutazone and Tanduk Rusa Kuat Lelaki Capsule,
manufactured by Multi Sari Manjur PJ in Banjarmasin which is
adulterated with Sildenail Citrate. Phenylbutazone is a substance
that is commonly used on horses for pain relief.
All these affected traditional
products contain substances which are controlled under Chapter 114
of the Poisons Act which makes it an offence to import, sell or
offer for sale any product containing a poison, without a licence
issued by the Ministry of Health.
There have recently been several
warnings issued in the country regarding harmful substances
discovered in cosmetics and health products.
This latest discovery is a direct
testament to vigilant monitoring by' the ministry, which reminds the
public that it is an offence to sell any product containing any
substance that is controlled under the Poisons Act, for which the
penalty, upon conviction, is a fine of $8000 or six months
imprisonment. -- Courtesy of
