Giving Dicey Miri A Miss
By H BAT
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The sometimes sparse situation at the Sungai Tujuh
Control Post as seen last Tuesday is a peculiar contrast to the busy
border crossing jammed with traffic at the Kuala Lurah Control Post
recently. The reason? It may be due to worries over vehicle safety
if visiting Miri in Sarawak because of a recent wave of reports
about Brunei-registered vehicles going missing.
Following the spate of reported
vehicle crime, holiday seekers here may have changed directions by
visiting Labuan, Limbang and the more adventurous to Kota Kinabalu,
Sabah, instead. Miri may be a perennial attraction for Brunei
shoppers but due to the frequent vehicle theft which targets mostly
Brunei-registered vehicles parked
in Miri town and another reported case of cars being vandalised in
Kuching, Sarawak, travellers especially Bruneians maybe shunning the
Sungai Tujuh border for Miri nowadays.
According to Awang Haji Mahmud of
Tutong when interviewed by Media Permata at the Kuala Lurah Control
Post recently, he and his family had to forget Miri for fear of a
hairy experience and he decided on Sabah instead.
He added that he might go there-(Miri)
one day when personal and vehicle safety are fully guaranteed.
So it is no surprise that long
queues are forming everyday at the Kuala Lurah Control Post also a
favourite exit but a newer alternative route by the day. -- Courtesy of Borneo
