By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Malaysian national was detained by the Belait Immigration's Law Enforcement Section on suspicion of working at a brick factory on a social visit pass.

He was arrested on Tuesday during Ops Berkas 122, carried out by six immigration officials, led by the acting senior immigration officer.

The suspect was found working as a labourer while on a social visit pass to the country. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had been working at the factory for three months; his task included keeping daily records of brick sales and supervising factory workers.

If found guilty, the suspect could face a compound fine of $600. The raid on Tuesday targeted construction sites as well as timber and brick factories in Labi and Kuala Belait. A total of 29 foreign workers were inspected during the operation, with five Thais and two Malaysians issued special passes.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
