Brunei DPMM FC Come Back To Tie Pulau Pinang
By Alex How

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei DPMM FC came back to draw 1-1 with Pulau Pinang in the Malaysian Super League at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.

Substitute Viban Bayong scored the equalising goal in the 80th minute to cancel out Pulau Pinang's Mohd Saufi Mohd Ibrahim first half strike.

Mohd Saufi caught Brunei DPMM FC defence offguard in the 18th minute, latching on to a neat through pass and hitting it home, to the dismay of the Brunei DPMM FC players.

The Brunei boys almost levelled the score soon after the kick-off, Shahrazen Hj Md Said rising above the Pulau Pinang defence but could only direct the ball to the Pulau Pinang keeper S. Shankar.

Pulau Pinang could have gone two ahead not long after but Mohd Zafran Olibullah headed just inches wide.

In the 40th minute, Brunei DPMM FC got a freekick on the edge of the penalty box when Rosmin Hj Mohd Kamis was brought down by K Puvinderan Naidu, who received a yellow card for his trouble.

Ito Dan rolled the ball towards Rosmin only for the Brunei DPMM FC captain to hit the defensive wall.

Naidu was lucky to escape a second yellow card five minutes later when the hard-tackling defender brought down Sairol Hj Sahri, but referee Ravichandran Chappanimutu just gave him a verbal warning instead.

Brunei DPMM FC came out a different team in the second half, pushing forward for the equaliser. Versatile midfielder Ito Dan could have put his name on the scoresheet off a pass from Fadlin Galawat, only to see his shot blocked by a defender. In the 60th minute, Chappanimutu waved away a Brunei DPMM FC penalty claim when Hardi Bujang went down in the penalty box.

Coach Ranko Buketa later brought in Bayong to give the Brunei more firepower, and the move paid dividends 10 minutes from time as Bayong scored from close range off a Rosmin corner.

Pulau Pinang soon after were reduced to 10 men after Ahmad Norafandy was sent off for a second yellow yard. Brunei DPMM FC will face Selangor FC in their next game this Saturday at Stadium Shah Alam. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
